Questions About Paper Bowls
on March 8, 2010 at 23:29I bought a pack of disposable paper bowls from the grocery store.
On the plastic wrapping, it had a label: Questions or comments? Call “1-800-..etc…”
Which immediately made me think- Someone, somewhere in this world, is standing by at a telephone, awaiting questions and/or comments about disposable paper bowls. I can’t decide if that’s really, really boring or really, really intriguing. What sorts of questions do people have about paper bowls? What sorts of comments? And how do they get answers? Does the representative study all there is to know about these paper bowls, or is there a “Frequently Asked Questions” database that he accesses to answer most inquiries about the paper bowls? How extensive is this database? And how was it created? Was it based on actual questions, or did they make the FAQ database before the questions started rolling in at the release of the paper bowl product? If it was made beforehand, that means there was a committee brainstorming what types of questions people would call in about, regarding disposable paper bowls. That’s even more amazing of a job than the guy who sits there fielding calls about the paper bowls.
I’ve decided I want to be that guy answering calls about paper bowls. I’m sure most days are uneventful, but every now and then, you might get a doozie of a call. A person calling in and asking whether or not the disposable paper bowl is effective as armor against a bear attack. And as you tell the guy, “No,” you hear his screams above the sounds of roaring, flesh ripping, and paper tearing.
They probably don’t let you have recording devices on the job, unfortunately.

I want to be on that committee. Interesting job that. I don’t know though, you could get some oddballs on the phone… “Is a paper bowel an acceptable hat?” And my answer would be of course it is. Just because I would want to see someone walking down the street with a bowel on their head. xp
Me too! I do want the job now.

Maybe it’s a legal requirement?
THIS IS WHAT YOU’RE PAYING YOUR GOVERNMENT TO DO!
IMPOSE STUPID REQUIREMENTS!

Hey now those stupid, and you forgot to mention superfluous, requirements are our god given right as Americans. You know who wins if we don’t have stupid requirements? Thats right the terrorists win. They also win if we dont have ketchup.
If we don’t have a resource for paper bowl questions, our nation is officially in the crapper.

Anyone called the person answering questions about paper bowls? Maybe he/she has some good stories to tell you.
You’re right!

Um, Dan, why didn’t you actually call and ask them those questions? I’m sure we’d all like to know how they answer them.
As JackXD said above! You’re both right. I gotta go get the wrapper out of the trash and call….

a friend of my family had a job like that for willy wonka. he says you get a range of products from the company, and a lot of docs with product info. then you try to answer the question as best you can. for the candy biz, most are people asking about allergies, and if you can eat it if you have such-or-the-other disease.

I once called that number off a bag of Bugle chips. I told the woman there were several broken ones, and asked if superglue would be the best way to fix them. After sighing heavily, she informed me that I don’t need to glue them, the crumbs are just as edible as the whole ones.
But if I had to guess, I’d say that number is the same for all the company’s products, not just the bowls.

This could be the beginning of a whole new career path for people. Surely there are questions about all paper products, including toilet paper. Should you call it toilet paper, or is it more polite to refer to it as bathroom tissue?

having been served soup in a paper bowl unsuitable for hot liquids (as I found out about 15 seconds later) I think my host could have benefited from a call to that number…
