Video: The Inspiration!
on August 19, 2009 at 03:00How great is Pee Wee’s Big Adventure? I think scientists at Harvard actually proved that it’s one of the best movies in existence. I love the randomness, the creepiness, the funniness, and, well, pretty much everything. Not to mention it’s by one of my biggest artistic inspirations, Tim Burton. I saw the “Large Marge” scene recently and just had to work it into the “Pillows and Rattlesnakes Company” story somehow, and I’m glad that it was well received and that others enjoy the movie (and the scene) as much as I do. Take a look below, and compare, if you will, to the strip it inspired!

I couldn't do justice to the awesome expression on Pee Wee's face when she got to the "finally pulled the driver's body" part. Oh well, I tried.

I've never seen this movie. However, I am a big fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000/RiffTrax, and they've made several references to "Large Marge". Now I finally understand that joke. So thank you for that.

MST3K is also one of my favorite things on Earth. Maybe I need to look into RiffTrax. I keep hearing good things but have never seen it.

A good chance to check out Rifftrax would be tomorrow (Thursday) night, since they are having a live show that is being shown via satellite in theaters across the US. Just go to this website and type your zip code in and it'll tell you the closest theater showing it:

They're riffing Plan 9, and there's a musical segment by Jonathan "yes I wrote the Portal song" Coulton and Richard "Lowtax" Kranka, from Something Awful has a segment as well.

Ah interesting! I'll have to look into that tonight, thanks for the info. I keep hearing all about RiffTrax so I should probably check it out.

There's a country song that Big Marge is probably a spoof of: see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4HhFY3ljZccomm . It's called "Phantom 309" and made it to 9th place in the country charts in 1967, almost 20 years before that movie came out.
