Hey! So, I must once again thank Frumph (his blog here) for taking the time to redesign the entire look of my site. Let me know what you think! I’ll still be messing with random things, probably breaking other things and asking Frumph to fix them again, so forgive me if you come to my site and see a page full of nonsense. Well, accidental nonsense, at least.

Also, you may already have heard (from me) that I have a strip in the current edition of Mad Magazine, so look for it on the stands! My strip is in the Strip Club feature, titled “The Long and Short of It.”
Apparently my strip is toward the back of the magazine, so be patient when flipping around. I haven’t seen it yet myself, so I can’t tell you what page it’s on…
So, enjoy your Tuesday! At least it’s not Monday, right?!
Oh, and thanks again to whoever has been “Stumbling” comics of mine- a few have really taken off over there at StumbleUpon! I really appreciate it.
.

The site’s looking great! And, of course, the comic is as funny as ever. Personally, I find unicorns terrifying.
Hah, if Angry Horse had a horn, that would be terrifying. There’s no way he wouldn’t abuse it. Thanks, about the site! I just revamped it all into the wee hours of the morning last night. Well, not me, Frumph, but I witnessed it. And made some PNG files. Which is about all I can do when it comes to site modification.
Well great news about Mad. And since I tend to read magazines from back to front, I’ll come across your strip quick.
Interesting, I’ve heard of other people who read from back to front as well. I guess that’s a sort-of-common thing? Anyway, sounds good, mine will be one of the first you see, apparently.
Now if you could only get the back page it would be like you were the cover artist to me.
Great comic! I cant wait to see the strip in Mad.
Thanks! I can’t wait to see it either- still waiting on my copies…
Great use of lights and darks today!!!… the funny was quite good too.
Hey thanks, I was going for a “Noir” look, but I couldn’t avoid using some grays. I’m not very experienced in noir art, so this was my attempt at it.
Oh dear, PeeWee…
I would’ve loved to see that art class.
Ah, me too. I want to draw a comic based on it, but alas, Edmund wouldn’t be there, so we wouldn’t see it. Oh well, maybe it’ll be an extra feature in the first Edmund Finney comic collection paperback.
I’d love to see that, too.
I’d come to the book-signing.
I’ll make sure to let you know when it is!
By the looks of the driver and the sketch, it should have been her *grand*daughter’s sketchbook that got mixed up with the photo album. Just sayin’…
Hah, good point, and I actually thought about that when writing it, but “daughter” flowed much better with the dialogue, I thought. Perhaps she’s just an older mother in unflattering lighting, or an adoptive mother.
Ha! I was just talking with my wife about Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. This is hilarious!
Thanks, I think I’ll throw a little referential humor in here a little more often. This is one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite ridiculous movies, so I had more fun drawing this strip than most
Great comic today – just awesome. I like the shot of the truck flying over the road – obviously that was a sequential panel to move the story along without getting into the details of the “accident” – right? It’s very effective – quick question though – did you try other options? I’d be interested to hear – I’m curious, because I got hung up on the mock-text and was wondering if it was just me. (and by hung up, I mean it interrupted my reading flow)
Again, fine job!
Hey! I wish I could take credit for the truck pause, but this comic is actually a frame-by-frame re-creation of a scene from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (until the bottom row), and they did, in fact, use the shot of the truck to convey the telling of the story without the audience hearing it.
But yes, I did wrestle with whether or not to include the mock text, but eventually decided on it because I didn’t know that it would convey that the story was being told without it. Without the mock text, it kind of looked like I had an extra panel so I just threw in a drawing of the truck again to fill it, which I think also has potential to interrupt the reading flow. Thanks for the feedback on it, that’s always helpful!
Just a little something to make art class more interesting today….
If anything could do it, that would.
The site’s looking great and this strip was particularly entertaining and well-executed. I’d hate to be in his daughter’s art class that day.
Thanks, it was a late night last night finishing up all the changes to the site AND finishing and uploading this strip. Hopefully I don’t fall asleep while typing thi
Tell’em Large Marge sent ya!!!
One of the highlights of the movie!
This is awesome! I love PeeWee and this is a perfect twist on that scene. I love it.
Isn’t that scene great? One of the classics. Definitely on some top list, in my book. I was feeling inspired after watching it
great riff on a classic scene! your heavy blacks totally nailed the mood and the twist you put on it was truly hilarious. awesome work.
Hey good to see you back here again. I’m thoroughly enjoying the writing and artwork of Jefbot myself!
She really looks like somebody’s grandma. I wouldn’t like to see her behind the wheel of a truck, let along hitch a ride with her. But then, Edmund keeps unusual company all the time.
Yeah, an old lady behind the wheel of a giant truck carrying rattlesnakes is never a good sign.
BEST PEE-WEE REFERENCE EVER!!!!
Hey! Thanks, I wish I knew where I could find a bunch of Pee Wee references because I’d love to compare.
Awesome comic today! I’ve been out for awhile, so it’s great to read the strip again.
MAD news is great as well, sir! Can’t wait to check it out. I’ll be making an appearance in 502
Yo, I haven’t been able to find 501 on the stands! I guess it’s not out in the midwest yet? Anyway my copies are being sent apparently, in the mail, so I’m excited to see it as well
I plan on trying to get into 502 but haven’t submitted anything yet…
Congrats about MAD, the site looks fantastic as well.
Hey thanks, it took several late nights but I’m loving the look of it as well. Good to know others are liking it too.
HEY D. LONG! I read your magazine comic strip about that guy and the sexy cop. And yes I keep stacks of MAD magazine laying around just in case anyone makes a reference to them. They’ve only been useful once. Thank you for making them have purpose.
